Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service (ACCS) is now generally available in the Americas region. For merchants there it is a third option alongside self-hosted Adobe Commerce and the previous cloud offering, and it is a different model rather than a different hosting plan.
What ACCS actually is
Instead of buying and managing Adobe Commerce as a software product, you subscribe to it as a fully-managed cloud service. Adobe owns the infrastructure, the security patching, the version upgrades and the operational work that goes with them.
The headline is "no more upgrades". Rather than planning a major version upgrade every few years, ACCS upgrades the platform in the background, with backward compatibility guaranteed so extensions and customisations keep working.
What changes for your team
Less to operate. No upgrade planning, no infrastructure scaling decisions, no security patch scheduling.
Performance as a given. Built on Edge Delivery Services, with sub-second page loads and near-perfect performance scores globally.
Intelligence included. Adobe Sensei AI powers search, personalisation and recommendations out of the box.
Headless by default. APIs come first, so web, mobile, in-store and social all draw on the same commerce engine.
A simpler cost model. Subscription pricing rather than licensing plus whatever the infrastructure came to that quarter.
The last one is not a technical point, but it is often the deciding one. Moving from capex-heavy infrastructure to a predictable subscription changes how finance teams evaluate the platform, and how you budget for a peak trading period.
The architecture
ACCS runs on Adobe's modern infrastructure stack, with Edge Delivery Services handling content and commerce operations:
Global distribution. Storefront assets served from edge locations near the customer.
Automatic scaling. Traffic spikes absorbed without anyone being paged.
Security built in. DDoS protection, a Web Application Firewall and compliance features included.
Disaster recovery. Redundancy and failover handled transparently by Adobe.
For large merchants, that addresses the performance-at-scale problems that have followed traditional Adobe Commerce deployments around for years.
Headless, natively
The commerce engine — inventory, orders, pricing, recommendations — is reached via APIs rather than welded to a frontend. That lets you build storefronts in Next.js, Vue or React, run several sales channels off one backend, try new experiences without touching the commerce core, and integrate third-party systems more cleanly.
If you are already running headless, the difference is that the platform now supports it natively rather than treating it as the alternative path.
Who should look at it
ACCS suits merchants who want to grow without taking on infrastructure, digital-first brands moving quickly across several channels, retailers where site speed is a revenue line, teams who want compliance and security handled by specialists, and anyone who would rather experiment than maintain.
It suits you less if your Adobe Commerce build is heavily customised and tied deep into legacy systems, though even then a planned transition can be worth costing.
Making the move
Product data, customer information and business logic all migrate. Custom code is where the work sits, and some of it will need refactoring to fit within ACCS constraints.
Early ACCS migrations are delivering what you would hope for: better performance, lower operating costs, teams no longer firefighting infrastructure. As with any platform migration, that depends on being honest about your starting point rather than optimistic about the destination.
What this means for you
Americas first, other regions expected to follow, so if you are outside the Americas this is a planning signal rather than a decision. The real change is that a fully managed, modern cloud-native Adobe Commerce is now a credible default rather than the compromise option, and that tends to sharpen up every other deployment model too.
