Adobe Commerce (Magento) 2.4.7 shipped in April 2024 with Payment Services bundled as the default payment solution. Taking payments is no longer a separate procurement exercise — it comes with the platform.
What Payment Services is
Payment Services is Adobe's native payment processing, built on Braintree infrastructure. It supports major credit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and other common methods, and it is maintained inside Adobe Commerce rather than bolted to the side of it.
What bundling changes day to day
Upgrade to 2.4.7 and you can start accepting payments without installing an extension or managing a separate set of API credentials. Fewer moving parts at launch, and fewer at maintenance time.
It also puts payments on the same release cycle and support model as Adobe Commerce itself, so compatibility stops being something you re-check before every upgrade.
PCI compliance
Payment Services is built with PCI DSS compliance as a core feature. Adobe handles tokenisation, encryption and secure data storage, so you keep compliance without standing up the security infrastructure or paying for the certifications yourself.
Default is not mandatory
If you have a processor you would rather keep — rates, reconciliation, a relationship that works — you keep it. Bundling gives you a sensible starting point, not a lock-in.
What this means for you
If you are building new on Adobe Commerce, or weighing a platform move, payments are one less unknown in the estimate. If you are already on the platform, this is an upgrade you can take without a payments project attached to it.
