On August 7, 2024 Adobe raised the limits on Live Search faceting. Facets now support up to 100 buckets (values) each, and price ranges extend to 40 million. For merchants with large or complicated catalogues, that removes a constraint you previously had to design around.
A quick reminder on facets
Facets are the filtering options on a search results page — brand, colour, size, price range. Customers click facet values to narrow what they see. Get them right and products are easier to find; get them wrong and customers give up.
What 100 buckets buys you
Live Search previously capped facets at smaller bucket counts, which limited how finely you could break a catalogue down. At 100, fashion merchants can expose granular size ranges, colour options and brand selections. Home goods can filter by material, style, brand and price. Electronics can filter on processor, RAM, storage and a long tail of other specifications. Customers land on the right product faster, and that tends to show up in conversion.
Price ranges to 40 million
The extension to 40 million means high-value catalogues no longer need a workaround. Jewellery, premium home furnishings and other high-end sellers can offer proper price filtering across everything they sell.
One thing to watch
More buckets does cost a little performance. Adobe has optimised Live Search to absorb the extra complexity, but test your faceting configuration against production data rather than assuming. In most cases performance holds up even at maximum bucket counts.
The short version: the platform limits have moved out of the way, so how you design faceting is now a UX decision rather than a technical one.
