Adobe Summit 2020: Sensei product recommendations unveiled

Adobe Summit 2020 came with a set of commerce announcements, and AI-powered product recommendations led them. Alongside that: further work on progressive web apps, and deeper Adobe Stock integration.

Sensei-powered product recommendations

Adobe Sensei, Adobe's artificial intelligence and machine learning framework, now powers product recommendations inside Adobe Commerce. Where a rules-based engine does what you told it, Sensei reads behavioural data — browsing patterns, purchase history, seasonal trends — and works out what to show.

What you get

Minimal configuration, and no data science team required to build or tune the models. The engine learns from customer interactions and adapts recommendations in real time as shopping patterns change, so it improves without anyone going in to adjust it.

In practice that means higher average order values, better-matched recommendations, and customer lifetime value that grows as the experience gets more personal.

PWA enhancements

Building on the PWA support from earlier releases, Adobe announced further refinements — better offline functionality, more app-like experiences, and improved caching. The point is a mobile experience that stands up next to a native app without the cost and complexity of building one.

Adobe Stock integration

Adobe Stock, Adobe's royalty-free imagery library, is now more tightly integrated with Adobe Commerce. Millions of professional images are available directly in the platform, which cuts a step out of product photography and marketing asset work and keeps content creation in one place.

What this means for you

Capabilities that used to need a consulting engagement or a custom build now come with the platform. If you have been putting off personalisation because of the setup cost, the setup cost has moved.

The wider signal is worth noting too: intelligent, personalised commerce is turning into the baseline rather than the differentiator. Getting there early is easier than catching up later.
