In March 2023 the Adobe Commerce Destination Connector reached General Availability (GA). It activates Real-Time CDP audiences directly into Adobe Commerce (Magento), so a segment built on live customer data can change what a shopper actually sees.
What it connects
Real-Time Customer Data Platform (Real-Time CDP) is Adobe's customer identity and segmentation engine. Until March 2023, getting those segments into commerce was a manual, batch-oriented job. The Commerce Destination Connector automates it: any Real-Time CDP segment can be activated to the storefront in one click.
At GA the connector supports real-time activation within minutes, behavioural triggers when customers enter or exit a segment, personalisation rules that drive dynamic content and recommendations, audience sync as customer attributes, and activation that respects consent.
What you would do with it
VIP treatment. Identify high-value customers, then show exclusive collections, apply tiered pricing, offer priority service and recommend complementary products.
Churn prevention. Real-Time CDP flags likely churners and the storefront responds with win-back messaging, exclusive discounts and recommendations.
Intent-based selling. Infer intent from browsing and email engagement, then activate the recommendations and comparison tools that match it.
How it works
The connector bridges Real-Time CDP's Unified Segment API and Adobe Commerce's customer attribute system. When a segment changes, Real-Time CDP publishes an event, the connector identifies the affected customers, the attributes update in Commerce, and extensions read the new values.
Consent is enforced, not assumed
You cannot activate a segment containing customers who have opted out of marketing. The connector checks consent before syncing, removes customers when consent is withdrawn, keeps an audit trail, and supports region-specific regulation. Worth knowing before someone asks you to prove it.
What this means for you
Configure the destination in Real-Time CDP, map the attributes in Commerce, test on a small segment, then launch. Adobe published guidance on tuning batch sizes and update frequencies at different scales, from 10K to 10M customers.
Start with one segment you can measure. The connector is plumbing, and plumbing only pays when something useful flows through it.
