The ACCS Edit #1: What is ACCS, and why are we migrating?

The ACCS Edit is our home for everything Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service. First: why we're building on it, and what it means for the brands we work with.

The ACCS Edit by Tom&Co and Adobe Commerce. Edit #1: What is ACCS, and why are we migrating?

Welcome to The ACCS Edit. As one of the first agencies to put a site live on ACCS, we'd love to share our first-hand experience: our launches, what we've learnt along the way, and the ins and outs of the platform.

At the end of September, we launched David Nieper on ACCS. They were the first of our clients to make the move, and we're excited to have three more builds already under way.

So, let's begin with the essentials: what ACCS is, and why we've chosen to build on it.

A platform, rethought

Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service is the newest form of Adobe Commerce, the platform many still know as Magento. The engine will feel familiar; what's new is the way it's run: ACCS is delivered as a fully managed service, with Adobe looking after the hosting, security and updates behind the scenes.

What's different

  • Updates arrive continuously. New features roll out as Adobe releases them at no extra cost to you. Each one is flagged in advance, with 30 days to test it before it reaches the live site.

  • Security is handled by Adobe. Patches are applied automatically in the background, and every site is protected by a web application firewall.

  • Speed comes as standard. Storefronts run on Adobe's Edge Delivery Services, built to score 90 and above in Google's Lighthouse tests, so pages load quickly on any device.

  • Scale is automatic. The platform grows with demand, whether that's a busy sale, a new range or a jump in orders, and Adobe backs it with 99.9% availability.

  • B2B and B2C sit together. Trade customers get company accounts, custom pricing and quotes, while shoppers get the same fast storefront, all from a single instance.

Why we're building on it

We've worked with Magento and Adobe Commerce for more than a decade, and many of the brands we look after run on it today. So when Adobe introduced ACCS, our first question was a simple one: what would it mean for them?

The more we learnt, the clearer the answer became. With Adobe running the platform, more of the time we spend with our clients can go on the work that moves their business forward: new features, better customer experiences and fresh ideas. Their sites are fast from the first day, and Adobe's newest capabilities reach them as soon as they're released.

We've worked very closely with Adobe throughout, and that partnership has shaped how we build on ACCS.

Our first launch: David Nieper

We've been working with David Nieper since 2023. We launched their new headless storefront in early 2024, and we've looked after the site ever since. When we first talked to their team about ACCS in late 2025, the timing suited both of us. They were at a natural point to review their platform, and their site was the right size for a first build. With Adobe's support, we kicked off in the spring and went live around six months later.

What we built:

  • A headless storefront on Edge Delivery Services, Adobe's storefront technology, built so pages load quickly wherever shoppers are.

  • An agentic CMS, so the team can start a new page simply by describing what they need, with a person reviewing it before anything goes live.

  • Akeneo, connected, with product information flowing straight from their PIM into the new platform.

The new site scores 95 out of 100 for mobile speed on Google PageSpeed Insights, and passes Google's Core Web Vitals.

None of this happens without great partners. A huge thank you to our partners at Adobe, who have backed us at every stage of our first ACCS launch, and to the whole David Nieper team for being brilliant to work with from start to finish.

With one launch down and three more to go, there's plenty more to come. The ACCS Edit is where we'll share it: our launches, what we learn along the way, and the latest developments in ACCS.
