Adobe released Adobe Commerce 2.4.9-alpha3 on October 14, 2025. Both headline changes are about payments failing less often: Braintree ELO card support, and Real Time Account Updater (RTAU) integration.
ELO card support
ELO is a major credit card brand in Latin American and some Asian markets. Adobe Commerce previously supported limited ELO processing through Braintree. In 2.4.9-alpha3, ELO cards get first-class support, so customers in ELO-primary regions can pay without friction. If you sell into Latin America, that is a barrier to acceptance removed rather than a feature added.
Real Time Account Updater
RTAU is a Braintree feature that updates vaulted payment methods automatically when card details change. When a customer's issuing bank reissues their card with a new expiry date or updated details, RTAU updates the vault. The next transaction goes through on the new details with no action from the customer, who never learns any of this happened.
Why that is worth having
Expired and reissued cards are a steady, invisible source of failed payments — most obviously on recurring billing, subscriptions and saved payment methods. RTAU reduces failed payment recovery costs, improves subscription renewal rates, and takes a category of ticket away from your support team.
Implementation
RTAU is configured in Braintree, not in the Adobe Commerce layer. Enable it there and Commerce picks up the updated cards. No custom development, no Commerce-side configuration.
What this means for you
2.4.9-alpha3 is an alpha, so this is a testing release. If you process international payments or run subscriptions, these are the two features to put through their paces now — feedback from that testing is what shapes the final 2.4.9.
