A three-time winner at the UK eCommerce Awards: our 2021

2021 was the year we finally entered our work for awards — and left with wins for Topps Tiles, Oliver Bonas, Biscuiteers and more.

We were never short of confidence about the work. We were building headless eCommerce eight years before the word became a buzzword, and that flexibility is what brought Oliver Bonas, Topps Tiles, Agent Provocateur and the RHS to us in the first place.

What we had never done was put much of it in front of a judge. Too busy building. 2021 was the year we changed that, and it turned into a bit of a run.

It started with Topps Tiles

We were thrilled enough with the Topps Tiles relaunch to enter it for BC2 eCommerce Website of the Year at the UK Digital Growth Awards. Topps Tiles won.

The entry itself turned out to be worth the effort on its own. Putting pen to paper is the clearest way to see what you set out to achieve and whether you actually did it. Both teams were over the moon.

The Adobe Experience Maker Awards

As an Adobe Partner, this one mattered. Leona Lewis hosted the ceremony. We were named a finalist against Oreo and Industry West, and then we won the category — The Mastermind.

The Direct Ecommerce Awards

At this point we were busy polishing the new awards cabinet while our clients did the winning. The Leprosy Mission took Best Charity Trading Brand. Wentworth Puzzles took two: Best B2C Technology Partners and Best Gifts, Hobbies & In-home Brand.

The GLOBAL eCommerce Awards

Getting a little big for our boots, we put Topps Tiles into the GLOBAL eCommerce Awards. The night coincided with Euro 2020. The football did not come home. Topps Tiles did, with GLOBAL DIY, Home, Furniture & Interior Design Ecommerce Website of the Year.

The eCommerce Awards 2021

We waited on the finalist announcement rather more nervously for this one, and came away with two: Best B2B eCommerce site and Best Wholesale and Trade eCommerce, both with Topps Tiles Trade.

More followed through the year — Best Retail with Oliver Bonas, Best UX with Topps Tiles and Best B2B website with Topps Tiles Trade. Finalist in all three, winner of Best UX, and highly commended for B2B.

A clean sweep to finish

The last challenge of the year was the UK eCommerce Awards, and it was the first non-virtual event we had been to all year. Suited and booted, off to the Montcalm.

Three from three: Food & Drink Ecommerce Website of the Year with Biscuiteers, Fashion & Apparel Ecommerce Website of the Year with Oliver Bonas, and B2B Ecommerce Website of the Year with Topps Tiles Trade.

Why any of this matters

We work closely enough with our clients that they treat us as an extension of their business, and awards are one of the few moments where that shows up in public. Winning them together gave everyone a well-earned sense of achievement, and made the whole thing feel more like one team than two.

A big thank you to Don't Panic, who were a huge part of Tom&Co's award success in 2021.
