Adobe Commerce has released an urgent patch for the PayPal Express Checkout integration. It fixes a shipping address bug that has been breaking orders for merchants with custom region configurations.
What was going wrong
The bug hit when customers entered country regions manually during PayPal Express Checkout. In some cases the system failed to validate and process those manually entered region codes, which produced order errors and failed transactions. It bit hardest where administrative divisions or territories don't map neatly onto standard country codes.
Who it affected
Mainly Adobe Commerce Cloud merchants using PayPal Express Checkout with custom region configurations. The symptoms were checkout failures, abandoned carts and customers giving up at the payment step. A bug in the payment path is never a low-priority bug.
What the patch changes
The fix refines region validation inside the PayPal integration module, so manually entered region data maps correctly to the internal system whether the region uses standard ISO codes or custom merchant-defined values. That removes the downstream errors that were failing transactions.
What to do
Apply it. There's no custom configuration involved, and once it's in, checkout works reliably again for customers entering their region by hand.
If you trade in regions with non-standard administrative divisions or custom region codes, verify it on staging first and run the full PayPal Express Checkout flow to confirm the fix in your setup.
