The 2024 Adobe Commerce release calendar: one core patch, five security updates

The 2024 Adobe Commerce release calendar: one core patch, five security updates

In August 2023 Adobe set out its release strategy for 2024, and it is a shorter list than merchants had grown used to: one core patch, Adobe Commerce 2.4.7, plus five security-focused updates.

The 2024 calendar

  • One major release — Adobe Commerce 2.4.7, scheduled for mid-2024, covering critical improvements and selected new capabilities

  • Five security patches — quarterly or as-needed updates delivering vulnerability fixes without feature changes

  • Extended support windows — clearer end-of-life dates, so upgrade timelines can be planned rather than reacted to

  • Fewer releases overall — more room for testing, extension compatibility verification and operational planning

This is Adobe responding to what merchants told them: releases arriving faster than teams could test them, custom extensions breaking each time, and upgrade work steadily crowding out everything else.

Why it helps

If you run a stable Adobe Commerce installation, you no longer upgrade every quarter simply to stay current. Security patches deal with urgent vulnerabilities without dragging feature changes along with them. Development time moves from continuous patching to work that actually improves the store.

For a development team it means longer cycles for extension updates, more time for regression testing, clearer roadmaps for capacity planning, and less emergency hotfixing.

What is expected in 2.4.7

Adobe has signalled a focus on:

  • performance optimisations, particularly for large catalogue stores

  • database query efficiency improvements

  • improved admin performance and responsiveness

  • GraphQL API enhancements for headless commerce implementations

  • selected new capabilities addressing widespread merchant needs

Stability and performance over feature count. Not the most exciting release note ever written, which is rather the point.

Security patches

Five scheduled security patches give you predictable remediation dates to plan patching windows around. Critical vulnerabilities found between releases will still be handled out-of-cycle.

What this means for you

If you are on 2.4.5 or 2.4.6, plan the 2.4.7 upgrade for Q3-Q4 2024. That leaves enough time for extension compatibility verification, staging tests, performance benchmarking, team familiarisation, and whatever your change approval process needs. No mid-year surprise release is coming to compress that timeline.
